elka Holzwerke GmbH
elka-Holzwerke was founded in 1906 and is located in Morbach, Rhineland-Palatinate, in the middle of the extensive woodlands of the Hunsrück region. The fourth-generation family business has been committed to the topics of healthy living, emission reduction and sustainability for many years. Elka is a member of the DGNB e.V. (German Sustainable Building Council) and is present with its products in the DGNB Navigator. Since August 2021, elka has been certified as a climate-neutral company (balance sheet, including CO2 certificates).
In the modern sawmill, sawn timber and construction timber is produced; part of the sawn timber is processed into three-layer natural wood panels, known under the brand name "elka vita".
The fresh sawdust and wood chips produced in the sawmill are pressed into other wood-based materials such as chipboard and esb wood construction panels. esb and esb Plus are brands of elka-Holzwerke and have received several awards from independent institutes - they are the first wood-based panels on the German market to be certified climate-neutral in 2021.
Thanks to the exemplary value chain of a unique cascade production, almost all parts of the round wood used are processed. Raw woods are sourced exclusively from suppliers who have committed themselves to the sustainability principles of the Pan-European Forest Certification (PEFC).
Customers at home and abroad as well as the leading purchasing associations of the timber trade and industrial customers appreciate the elka variety. Bundled purchases and customer-oriented logistics save elka customers time and money. The medium-sized company employs over 230 people and is continuing to expand.
